Rants, Raves & Really?!?
A look back at last week’s highs, lows and whatevers:
RAVE: We’d like to welcome Nissan of Newnan to the community. The dealership on Bullsboro Drive next to the Interstate 85 ramps recently held its grand opening. Who needs to go anywhere else to find the perfect vehicle? We’ve got just about every dealership here.
RAVE: And a tip of the glass to Main Street Newnan for holding the fifth annual Summer Wined Up event in downtown Newnan. Despite fears of rain, participants got to partake of dozens of wines featured by 32 merchants. Thanks for once again highlighting our beautiful downtown.
REALLY?!? The Dalton Expansion Project, a natural gas pipeline, is gearing up for construction. The 106-mile gas line will include 6.3 miles in Coweta County.
REALLY?!? More than 300 people – 308 to be exact – were recently indicted by a Coweta County grand jury. Charges include armed robbery, child molestation, assault and a slew of drug charges.
RANT: A home in Senoia was severely damaged after a fire broke out in the garage and quickly spread to the home’s attic. Firefighters got the blaze under control within 15 minutes, but the garage and two cars were destroyed.
REALLY?!? Appears we have a streaker in our midst. Residents on Ridley Road in north Coweta said they saw a naked man running down U.S. 29. OK, not completely naked and not without some decorum. He was wearing a plain white baseball cap and was covering his, um, privates, while running. There’s got to be a background story somewhere.
REALLY?!? Downtown Newnan had a little excitement after a suspicious package was found outside the Coweta County Courthouse. The bomb squad was called in, pedestrians and merchants evacuated, but the box turned out to be holding nothing but brochures.
RANT: When you say “road rage,” you think of L.A. highways. But we’ve got that problem here, too. Michael Brandon Garrett, 33, is charged with aggravated battery after jumping out of his car and breaking the jaw of another driver. Garrett also was charged with reckless driving and child cruelty for fighting in front of a child, who was a passenger in the other vehicle.
REALLY?!? Keep your pets inside at night. Local residents around Redwine Drive off Roscoe Road said they’ve been hearing coyotes in the area. Already a cat is reported missing.
RAVE: If you love the “Walking Dead” series on AMC Television, you are in luck. Crews have been busy filming scenes in and around the old hospital on Hospital Drive. Just don’t get too close to the zombies.
REALLY?!? Will it never end. Grantville Police Chief Doug Jordan was suspended for seven days by the mayor. Jordan then submitted his resignation before the city council was to meet to discuss his actions. Word is Jordan sent derogatory text messages, using the “N-word” to other officers. The soap opera that is Grantville continues.
