Our school system scores again

Yet another star to add to the Coweta County School System.

The Georgia Department of Education released the results of the latest alphabet soup tests and our county once again was above the state average. The alphabet in question is the College and Career Readiness Performance Index, or CCRPI.

The CCRPI replaces the old No Child Left Behind law and is the state’s new educational accountability measure. Getting through all the educational talk, the new standards look at how students progress and what they have achieved, as well as any holdbacks to reaching full potential.

Overall, our school system scored a 77.4 compared to a 75.8 for all Georgia public schools. And again, that’s a testament to our teachers, administrators and parents.

Breaking down by grade levels, Coweta’s elementary schools were the only ones to just miss beating the state average, scoring 76.2 to the overall state average of 77.8.

Our middle schools scored 79.9, compared to the state average of 74.6. Coweta high schools hit 74.8, with a state average of 71.8.

Congrats to Arbor Springs Elementary and Elm Street Elementary for having the highest score for lower grades at 90.2 each. Madras Middle School took top honors in that grade level with a 87.3. Northgate High School had the highest score in the upper levels with 82.7.

“Our teachers, staff and students continue to work hard, and our performance this year as a school system has exceeded the state average on this new accountability tool,” said School Superintendent Dr. Steve Barker.

Indeed, it has. Yet another example of why we love living here in Coweta County – our schools continue to rank among the best in the state.
