Rants, Raves & Really?!?

A look back at last week’s highs, lows and whatevers:

RAVE: Coweta County law enforcement captured a suspect wanted on four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. Jimmy Lee Rosser Jr., 29, was arrested for allegedly shooting at his girlfriend and three children. And a RANT to Rosser, who’s now in the running for Father of the Year.

REALLY?!? The Newnan-Coweta County Airport/Whitlock Field just raised hangar fees at the airport, citing the airport’s rates are below the market. The 11 percent to 13 percent increases were called “modest.”

RANT: Antolin Cancio Gonzalez, 36, was arrested after throwing beer bottles at a group helping his estranged wife move out. He later went to his car and retrieved a loaded .22 rifle and threatened to kill everyone. Fortunately, neighbors were able to pin Gonzalez down until authorities arrived, or else the situation could have been much worse.

RAVE: The Post Office gets a lot of flack, but hats off to them for opening on President’s Day — a federal holiday. The recent ice storms shut down post offices across the state and volunteers manned the booths on the holiday to catch up and help people with their mailings.

RANT: Yet another case of identity theft. A Newnan couple was arrested and charged with multiple counts of identity fraud. They used four different credit cards belonging to an individual and stole several thousand dollars. Check your bank statements.

REALLY?!? The PTO treasurer of Arnco-Sargent Elementary stepped down after an investigation determined about $6,000 was used for “inappropriate expenditures.” No arrests were made after the treasurer repaid the money.

RANT: What is it about men beating their girlfriends with baseball bats? Do they just have some off-the-wall idea it’s some right of manhood we don’t know about? Alan Michael Thompson, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a knife and aggravated assault with other weapon. Someone needs to take him out back and give him what he gave his girlfriend.

RANT: We’re back to long lines at the Coweta County Tag Office. More than 40 people were waiting in line last Friday. Officials attributed it to the office being closed for two days during the ice storm. Let’s hope this doesn’t continue.

RAVE: Newnan and Peachtree City were honored as among the safest cities in Georgia. PTC was at number 5 while Newnan was at number 47, according to a study by www.safewise.com. Thanks to our local law enforcement for keeping us safe.

RANT: Three people were arrested for possessing about $35,000 worth of meth. The seizure totaled 2.2 pounds. No wonder we can’t get any nasal decongestants. A big RAVE to the county’s Crime Suppression Unit for nabbing the alleged drug dealers.
