Rants, Raves & Really?!?

A look back at the highs, lows and whatevers of the previous week:

REALLY: Have some drinks. Go to a restaurant and have more. Get in your car. Spin your tires out in the parking lot to show your coolness. Slam into a couple of cars. Run back inside the aforementioned restaurant and try to report your car was stolen. Get arrested. Ta da!

RAVE: Lt. Col. Bob Yeager retired after 27 years with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. He started as a jailer and ended as division director of the CCSO Court Services Division. He was always a pleasure to work with and served our county faithfully. He will be sorely missed. Thank you sir, enjoy your retirement.

RANT: Okay, we realize it’s a public hearing and it’s about roads and bridges and bike trails oh my. But attendance was sparse at the first couple of meetings for the county’s Joint Comprehensive Transportation Plan. And yes, that’s a mouthful and probably turned you off anyway. Understand this is a chance for you to give your input on the county’s future transportation plans. If you don’t want an overpass winging over your backyard, please participate. That’s why they are called “public meetings.”

RAVE: The sheriff’s office has two new officers - Ruger and Justice - joining the Crime Suppression Unit. Justice is 10-months old and Ruger is three. Not to worry, they’re new search dogs and will be a big asset in fighting crime.

REALLY: Grantville City Council had another meeting and … got along. This is at least the second meeting in a row that the news wasn’t about who was yelling at whom but about getting work done. Keep this up and we’ll have to give a RAVE pretty soon.

RAVE: October groundbreakings are scheduled in October for the new University of West Georgia Newnan campus at the former Newnan Hospital site, and the new public safety complex that will house all of the Newnan Police Department. As Police Chief Buster Meadows has said repeatedly, “we’re ready to move in yesterday.”

RAVE: You really don’t want to mess with the Top Gun Boxing team. Six of the team’s seven fighters just medaled at the Georgia Games. Congrats are in order. Don’t hit us.

REALLY: A 17-year-old weighing 300 pounds was charged with raping a three-year-old girl. What can you say other than this is a horrible tragedy from every angle.

RAVE: And a big thank you to staff, supporters and volunteers for the opening of the Brown’s Mill Battlefield historic site. It took more than a decade to see the opening and everyone involved please take a bow. If you haven’t been out there, now’s your chance.

RANT/RAVE/REALLY: Still problems down at the Coweta County Tag Office with decals not printing off the tag numbers. But at least county and state officials, along with the vendor, are working to figure out what the heck is going on.
