All but two of 166 jobs available require high school education

Last week’s Trivia Bee raised about $10,000 to help CLICK (Certified Literate Is Coweta’s Key) create awareness about the value of education.

CLICK works with the Adult Education Department at West Georgia Technical College and the Coweta County School System to help school dropouts return to the classroom to get a GED. CLICK also recruits volunteers to assist as tutors, mentors and aides in the community.

Everyone is aware of the importance of having a high school diploma or earning the equivalent -- a GED.

Peter Ludlow, manager of the Georgia Department of Labor’s Newnan Career Center, passed along a startling number at the Trivia Bee.

Of 166 jobs available locally, only two do not require a GED or high school diploma, according to Ludlow.

That makes it clear. If you don’t have a high school diploma or GED, you will have a difficult time getting a job in today’s work force. There are adult education programs available for those in need of a GED.
