A special talent, a special concert on stage April 20

For the past 20 years, as spring approached in Newnan, so did the annual Wadsworth and Friends concert in the downtown Newnan Wadsworth Auditorium.

That will be the case again this year. Spring arrives on Wednesday (March 20). One month later, on April 20, esteemed Newnan native Charles Wadsworth and his friends will return to the stage of the auditorium bearing Wadsworth’s name for the 21st annual concert in the Newnan series.

What’s different about this 2013 concert is that it will be the final concert in the series. That was announced earlier this month when the Newnan Cultural Arts Commission sent out letters to concert patrons.

“Late last year, Charles decided that age and providence dictated that he conclude his concert appearances, and the 2013 Newnan concert would be one of a very few scheduled,” said John White, 2013 concert chairman for the cultural arts commission.

The Wadsworth concert has become a sellout in our community, and the fact this one will be the finale ensures there will be a rush to buy tickets.

On the front page of today’s Newnan Times-Herald we report ticket sales will begin on Wednesday -- the first day of spring. The news story outlines details for purchasing tickets. If you are interested, you should act quickly.

Charles Wadsworth is one of Newnan’s favorite sons. He is one of the greatest talents to come out of this community, with a name, talent and reputation that’s recognized around the world.

In addition to his greatness as an entertainer, he has exhibited a magnificent commitment to his native community by returning each year to provide a world-class concert for the home folks.

Charles Wadsworth is a community gem, and the community is looking forward to again welcoming him and his friends.
