Harvester Academy responds

Recently, Harvester Christian Academy was criticized publicly for not playing the National Anthem at a basketball game.
It is our practice to begin most sporting events with prayer and the National Anthem, but we do not play the National Anthem for all games. There have been many basketball games this year when it was played and some when it was not, both at home and away.
Communion is a holy sacrament observed by most Christian churches. Does every denomination partake in communion weekly? I assure you they don’t. Even within certain denominations, different churches observe the sacraments at different intervals. These observances are based on traditions and preferences of the local body of believers in many cases.
Should any of us call into question or criticize another church for being unholy based on their observances of the sacraments? Would you visit another church and loudly ask, “What about communion?” Would you publicly criticize that church for not observing it on that day?
This recent criticism has been a blessing for Harvester Christian Academy in that it has given us an opportunity to discuss our Christian and American values with our students once again.
Among these are the values of freedom of expression and our responsibilities to be honest and respectful of each other.

We also have the opportunity to discuss political correctness and how it is used to force individuals and organizations to conform to others’ agendas. We have shared with our students God’s expectations of us when we are confronted in anger and wrongly accused (I Peter 2:15).

Harvester Christian Academy exists to train its students’ minds to lead and hearts to serve. We daily remember to thank God for our wonderful school and the freedoms we have in America to celebrate Jesus and make Him famous.
