Let's remember a hero with moment of silence

Our community and our nation lost a fine young man a year ago with the tragic death of Capt. Nicholas S. Whitlock, who was serving his country in a faraway land.
Whitlock was killed when the plane he was piloting went down a year ago Monday in Djibouti, Africa. He was returning from a military mission when the crash occurred.
Whitlock was a Newnan High School graduate and was involved in many community activities, including athletics, scouting and his church.
His family has been a part of this community dating back to 1848.
A year ago, when the horrible news of Whitlock’s death spread through our community, there was a tremendous outpouring of support for this family in its time of grief. Now, on the one-year anniversary of this young man’s death, our community is invited to observe a moment of silence on Monday at 11:19 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (10:19 CST).
Also on Monday, a memorial service will be held at Hurlburt Field in Florida where Whitlock and his other crew members were stationed.
Our community needs to pause Monday and remember Nicholas Whitlock and what he did during his short life.
He lived the life of a role model for what’s great in our country. He is a hero who paid the ultimate price in service to our nation.
