Another deserving Citizen of the Year

If you have been a volunteer in this community in the past three decades, you have almost certainly run into Bette Jo Hickman, who calls herself a “professional volunteer.”
You would be hard pressed to find anyone who has devoted more time to volunteer causes in Newnan and Coweta County during the past 30 years than Hickman, who on Thursday was named the 2013 Coweta County Citizen of the Year.
This is a prestigious and most deserving honor for Hickman, who joins 21 other distinguished local residents who have been named Coweta Citizen of the Year since the award was established in 1992.
Hickman has worked tirelessly to make this community a better place to live. Her contributions are widespread throughout the community -- in education, the arts, recreation, church, literacy, and in so many more cultural and civic endeavors. Her fingerprints are everywhere.
One of her greatest successes was founding Global Achievers in 1995.
This education non-profit focuses on international economic education and gets students throughout Georgia involved with students in other countries. Hickman works at home and abroad pairing schools and arranging projects and exchange trips.

Congratulations, Bette Hickman, 2013 Coweta County Citizen of the Year, and thank you for all you have done for our community.
