Voting begins today in special election
Early voting begins today at the Coweta Voter Registrar’s office in the special election for Georgia House District 71. The district includes most of east Coweta County (minus the Senoia area), plus a small portion of Fayette County.Billy Horne previously held the seat, but when he decided not to seek reelection in 2012, voters elected Robert Stokely to the legislative position. Stokely decided to accept an appointment to a magistrate judge position in Coweta and not serve in the House seat. Thus a special election was called.
The election is Feb. 5, but early voting is scheduled today through Feb. 1 at the Voter Registrar’s Office, 22 East Broad St., Newnan, in the County Administration building. Hours for early voting are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
On election day polls in the east Coweta precincts in District 71 will be open from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m.
We encourage District 71 candidates to consider the six candidates and cast their ballots -- in early voting or on election day Feb. 5.
