Notre Dame might be ranked seventh in SEC

The No.1-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish got a good old-fashioned Southeastern Conference football whipping Monday from the once again National Champion University of Alabama in a game that really wasn’t as close as the 42-14 score indicated.
The buildup to the National Championship battle was hyped as a game for the ages between two of the most dominant teams in college football history. That’s history, but on Monday the Crimson Tide of Coach Nick Saban clearly established the Alabama football program as the current dynasty, winning the school’s third National Championship in four years.
Notre Dame had a great season, going undefeated before running into Alabama. But the Irish were not one of the best teams in the country Monday night. You can call us SEC homers if you want, but after the National Championship game, we suspect Notre Dame would have been no better than seventh if the team had been in the SEC this year.
In the SEC, Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, South Carolina and Florida all would likely have beaten Notre Dame.
