Are you ready for some football? It's time for the bowls and NFL playoffs

If you have been too busy celebrating Christmas, you may have missed the first eight games of the college football bowl season. That’s right, eight college football bowl games have already been played in places like Albuquerque, Boise, San Diego, St. Petersburg, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Honolulu and Detroit.
If you missed those games, don’t fret. There are plenty more games ahead between today and Jan. 7, when Alabama and Notre Dame take the field in the BCS National Championship Game in Miami.
This year there are 35 college bowl games. That means with eight already played, 27 games are on the calendar during the next 11 days. There are three games today, three games Friday, five games Saturday, four games Monday and six games on New Year’s Day. The daily load lightens after that, with one game each on Jan. 2-7.
As we get closer to the new year and in the days beyond, the games get generally more interesting, with many of the teams from the Southeast and Atlanta Coast Conference doing battle.
Georgia Tech does battle with Southern Cal at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 in the Sun Bowl. Clemson tackles LSU at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 in the Chic-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. Georgia takes on Nebraska at 1 p.m. Jan. 1 in the Capital One Bowl. And, of course, Alabama and Notre Dame kick off at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 in the National Championship Game.
If the 35-game college bowl season does not fulfill your football needs this holiday season, there’s still plenty of exciting National Football League play. Our Atlanta Falcons, with the best record in the league, close out the regular season Sunday against Tampa Bay. A week later the Falcons will begin the NFL playoffs. As long as the Falcons win in the playoffs, they will play at home until the Super Bowl.

The Falcons have had a dismal playoff record in recent years, but a Falcons’ trip to the Super Bowl in New Orleans would erase all those disappointing memories of yesteryear. Dream on, Atlanta fans. This could be your year.

It’s time to kick back and enjoy the college bowl games and the NFL playoffs. May your favorite teams win.
