Don't ban civilian gun ownership
I would like to thank the Coweta County School Board, the sheriff’s office and the Newnan Police for having the foresight and making the commitment years ago to provide school resource officers for our schools.Sadly, in today’s culture, they are needed in every school in the nation to protect our kids and teachers. The best defense against a crazy person with a gun is a sane person with a gun, whether it is an officer or a responsible citizen.
We should insist that a well-trained, fit and competent officer be on duty at all times in every school.
My heart breaks for the people in Connecticut who lost loved ones and children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It was a horrific crime and every parent’s worst nightmare.
Big government liberals and progressives would have us give up our rights and freedoms, leaving us dependent on them for our health, safety and welfare.
There are 32 states that issue concealed carry permits and the crime rate for all types of violent crimes in these states are lower than in the other 18.
Places like New York City and Chicago have the most restrictive gun laws, and the crime rates are higher because the criminals don’t fear that the public may be armed.
Each month the NRA publishes about 10 articles pulled from newspapers across the country where a responsible citizen prevents a crime, protects the family, or saves a life by having a legally-owned weapon.
Don’t believe all the anti-gun propaganda you hear on the news. Our country is sick, and we need to change our culture. Maybe we could try teaching respect for human life and obeying an absolute moral standard.
