Words from a mother burying her 'little man'
Newnan, Ga., is about 1,000 miles from Newtown, Conn., but our town and the entire world were brought closer to the Connecticut community following Friday’s horrific school massacre. Since the details of the tragedy began to unfold, many of us have been unable to get the victims, the families, the survivors and the entire Newtown family out of our thoughts.We grieve with them. We have questions. We want to know why. Why did this have to happen? Why?
We look for actions and words to help comfort the grieving families and the Newtown community. Then we find comforting words from a mother as she buried her young son on Monday.
On Tuesday, as we read the Associated Press story on the first of the funerals in Newtown, the words of Veronique Pozner -- mother of 6-year-old Noah Pozner -- jumped off the page.
At Noah’s service on Monday, Veronique Pozner said, “I will miss your perpetual smile, the twinkle in your dark blue eyes, framed by eyelashes that would be the envy of any lady in this room ... Most of all, I will miss your visions of your future. You wanted to be a doctor, a soldier, a taco factory manager. It was your favorite food, and no doubt you wanted to ensure that the world kept producing tacos.”
She closed by saying: “Momma loves you, little man.”
