Don't become God's enemy

My first reaction to President Obama’s win was that he was right when he said that America is not a Christian nation. My second reaction was that I had put too much faith in a political solution to America’s problems.
There is a problem with my first reaction in that there are Christians who supported Obama with as much enthusiastic support as I had for Mitt Romney. I based my choice between the two candidates upon two issues. I am deeply supportive of pro-life and the Bible’s definition of marriage. This defines our nations moral character.
The economic issues could be argued several ways, from a Biblical perspective. I heard a sermon once where the Bible was lifted up as the Word of God. The preacher said to read it with the purpose of finding out what pleases God and to do it. That sums up my theology.
Perhaps the Apostle John in Revelations best reveals that there would be great deceptions in the end times and that if possible even the elect would be deceived. That means that many good people will be deceived. Now I do not know who the “elect” are, but I suspect they will not include everyone on the church rolls or all those who consider themselves Christian.
In Christian history the darkest hours resulted in the greatest victory. Consider the cross. I have total trust in the Lord’s grace and love for each one of us no matter what our behavior. His Love may be “tough love” but love nevertheless.
My greatest fear and dread for our nation is not a total economic collapse due to our debt, but to become an enemy or an unfaithful friend to Israel.

My most ardent prayer is that we not become as a nation an enemy of God, because it is a fearful thing to become His enemy. That may move us beyond tough love.
