Parents – are you involved in your children's education?
When parents get involved in their students’ education, good things happen. Today is National Parent Involvement Day, a time when parents should think about ways they can become more involved in the education of their children.We have a good school system here in Coweta County. It’s run by skilled administrators, teachers and staff who are committed to providing a quality education for our children. Sure, our school system could be better. We strongly believe one of the keys to making it better is the involvement of parents in our schools.
During this National Parent Involvement Day and during November, which is Parent Engagement Month in Georgia schools, state school Superintendent John Barge is speaking about the involvement of parents.
In a letter sent to the media this week, Barge thanked parents for their involvement. He outlined educational initiatives being undertaken by schools, and he strongly encouraged even greater parental support.
He goes on to say the research is clear: “When schools, families and communities support each other, students of all backgrounds and ability levels achieve at the highest levels.”
Educating our young people takes a team effort. It takes the best efforts of students, parents, educators and the community to ensure that our young people get a quality education and are properly prepared to succeed in the workplace.
We are doing a good job in our schools here, but we can do better. During this Parent Engagement Month, we urge all parents to look for ways to become more involved in their children’s education throughout the year. It will pay great dividends.
