Adult education program getting permanent home

Adult education classes are a vital component of the overall education offerings in our community. These classes allow people who have had to drop out of high school to return to the classroom and earn a GED. A high school diploma or GED is critical for everyone in today’s economy because most jobs require at least a high school education.
For the past 15 years adult education classes in Coweta County have bounced around from one location to another. In the mid-1990s, they were held at the Westside School. They have shifted to Central Educational Center, to the former Savannah Street school, to Maggie Brown School and back to CEC. All the shifting was necessary because of space needs for other educational programs, but the many shifts were not without problems because potential students couldn’t keep up with where the adult education program was located.
Now with the building of the Coweta County campus of West Georgia Technical College off Turkey Creek Road near Interstate 85, Coweta’s adult education program will have a permanent home in the Allied Healthcare building now under construction. There will be classroom and office space for adult education in this new building.
That’s a positive step. We are delighted West Georgia Technical College, which operates the adult education program, chose to include this program at the new college campus.
