Can Coweta become a medical mecca?

Can Newnan and Coweta County become the “medical mecca” on the south side of Atlanta? That phrase was tossed out by people back when two new hospitals were being built in our community, and now that the new hospitals have opened, positive signals are coming from officials of both facilities.
The new Piedmont Newnan Hospital opened on Poplar Road just east of Interstate 85 in May. There was great excitement in the community when this much-needed, state- of-the-art hospital opened.
That excitement has continued. Patient count has been high, and hospital officials joyfully boost that the community has indeed accepted the new hospital in a big way. That’s great.
The new Cancer Treatment Centers of America Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Newnan opened in August in the Ashley Park area.
This week, cancer center officials said the hospital has exceeded expectations, additional staff is already being hired, and an accelerated timetable is likely for construction of phase two of the center.
As we have said before, these new hospitals are great news for our community. We have long needed improved health care facilities in this fast-growing county. Now that we are getting these new facilities, the people are accepting and using them.
Both hospitals appear to be first-class facilities, and we should all be proud.

As these hospitals grow, additional health care facilities will spring up around them.

A “medical mecca” in Coweta? Why not?
