Speed can be needed to keep up with sinners

A policeman in Cambridge, Mass., tore up a speeding ticket, which he was about to give a clergyman, who offered this explanation: “Officer, I’m sorry I was driving too fast and going over the speed limit, but you have to be speedy these days if you expect to have any chance at all of keeping up with all the sin and the sinners."
You have to admit the minister has a valid point there.
Apparently, we are now living in a time when there is little effort made by some to separate good from evil.
They are speeding down a destructive road that leads to disaster.
It would have been most amusing if, when the policeman stopped him and asked “Are you going to a fire?” the minister had calmly replied, “No, but I am afraid a lot of other people are.”
There is no doubt about a minister having to be quick these days if he gets around to all who need him. Clergymen are engaged in quite a battle, trying to be sure church remains more popular than golf on Sunday.
No sir, he can’t slow down now.
I guess about the only way you could even things up would be to put all the sinners on tricycles and make all the ministers jet-propelled.
