Don't make it easy for thieves to steal

On Wednesday, we published a news story about a string of vehicle break-ins in Coweta County, and authorities were asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect. An arrest has since been made in the case.
These break-ins had been occurring for about a month in the Smokey Acres, Festiva Drive and Meadow Sweet Lane area near Smokey Road Middle School.
In these break-ins, and in others reported in the county, authorities say the perpetrators are stealing only from unlocked cars. They remind people of the importance of locking their vehicle when the vehicle is not occupied.
That reminder is just good common sense. An unlocked vehicle is an invitation for a break-in. Also, exposed valuables in an unlocked vehicle make it more inviting for the bad guys.
Back in the day, there were places where you could feel safe, and your belongings were relatively safe in vehicles, homes and other areas without locked doors.
Those days are gone.
Never should you leave an unoccupied vehicle unlocked. Never leaves valuables in plain view in a vehicle. Cover them up or put them in a locked trunked.
Same goes for our homes and other areas where we have belongings. Secure all these areas when you are away.
Don’t make it easy for thieves to steal.
