We suspect T-SPLOST will be defeated in Three Rivers region
On July 31, when Coweta County voters go to the polls to cast ballots in the Republican and Democratic primary elections, there will be two issues on the ballot in addition to the small number of contested races for political office. One issue is the much talked about regional T-SPLOST sales tax vote with the collections during a 10-year period earmarked for transportation projects in the 10-county Three Rivers region. The other issue on the ballot will be the question, Should unincorporated Coweta County allow the Sunday package sales of beer and wine? Newnan voters have already approved the Sunday sales question.
With the election still more than a month away, we are not hearing much talk about Sunday beer and wines sales. We suspect that issue will be approved by voters as it was in Newnan. We would endorse the Sunday sales. In this day and time, citizens should have the choice of buying beer and wine on Sunday in stores where they can make the purchases the other six days of the week.
Back to T-SPLOST.
A week ago we asked our readers to give us their thoughts on T-SPLOST. We have received more than 50 comments that are overwhelmingly negative.
We suspect T-SPLOST is doomed in Coweta and the Three Rivers region. We could be surprised, but our sense is voters do not want a sales tax increase in this day of economic difficulties.
