Fallen heroes ensure our nation's freedomWe are proud of the way our community celebrates Memorial Day and Veterans Day, with all the attention paid to the men and women of our community who have served their country in military services.
This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. It’s a time when the school year is ending for thousands of students in our community. More than 1,500 public high school seniors are receiving diplomas, marking their significant milestone of graduating from high school. It’s also the weekend when the summer vacation season begins, with hundreds of our neighbors taking to the roadways for a time of leisure and relaxation.
This Memorial Day weekend is also a time when our community again remembers and salutes the military men and women who have paid the ultimate price in service to our country. Flags will be placed on military graves. There will be a Buddyn Poppy fund-raising effort and many other activities throughout the weekend as we salute our fallen heroes.
Highlighting the activities again this year in Newnan will be the special program at 11 a.m. Monday in Veterans Memorial Plaza at Jackson Street and Temple Avenue in the downtown area.
Family members of these fallen warriors have been invited to attend this community salute to these men.
We join all of our veterans organizations and our community in this patriotic salute to these five men and to all the men and women who have lost their lives in service to our country.
Our country remains the greatest thanks to the courage and the sacrifice of all those who have protected our freedom through the years.
