Applauding public safety

I observed a difficult incident in our neighborhood involving the discharging of a firearm. It was quite frightening, so my husband and I decided it prudent to document it through the sheriff’’s office. Deputy Jerard responded.
If Deputy Jerard is typical of those hired by Coweta County’s Sheriff’’s Department, then this county is in great hands. We were more than impressed. He was professional, informative and, just as important to us, he truly cared about our concerns.
Far too often our deputies and police officers are seen in a negative light. Many feel their only purpose is to “keep an eye on you in case you do something wrong.” Considering all the drug and other criminal arrests they’ve made lately, thank God they are out there “keeping an eye” on things. It should mean we all sleep a little easier at night.
The incident I observed did not involve a major crime. It was neither a drug deal nor robbery in progress. It was, nonetheless, quite disturbing. Neither of us slept well that night. However, after Deputy Jerard’s visit, our minds were set at ease and we both had a good night’s sleep. We were ever so grateful.
Thank you, Deputy Jerard, and all the members of our law enforcement community who not only arrest those who break the law, but also offer wise and comforting counsel to law-abiding citizens. We are all in your debt.
