I came across a wonderful book titled "Prudent Advice" by Jaime Morrison Curtis. It is a beautiful book suitable for gifting and it's a true pleasure to read.
My daughter Aubern Michelle is carrying her very own baby girl, her first child. I have never seen her so stunning. Her complexion is perfect, her eyes radiant and her hair like silk. "She has always looked like that to me," her daddy said when I mentioned it. True, we have been smitten with her from the first moment we knew she would be coming into our lives.
Since she will soon be a mommy I have selected just a few of the many notes of advice penned by Jaime Morrison Curtis to share with her from the Prudent book.
4. When given the opportunity, wear a costume.
8. A dog is a loyal friend from whom you will learn the nature of love and devotion.
9. Give lots of hugs to everyone you care for.
32. Forgive your mother. (We all screw up.)
59. Drink tea!
62. Take walks.
79. There is no substitute for baking soda.
80. Not everyone is going to like you and that's just fine.
97. Whimsy is essential.
100. Politely but firmly question authority.
106. If you can, grow some of your own food.
113. It's the rider's fault, not the horse's.
120. Keep good olive oil and real vanilla extract in your pantry.
152. Men, as a rule, are not good mind readers.
183. Dance.
186. Relish rocking your baby to sleep.
220. If you are passionate about a craft, invest in the best equipment you can afford.
353. Rain is romantic.
484. Know that I am proud of you.
I would add a few to the list, and some of these may be in the book. I didn't see them but it's possible there's one or two among the pages of Curtis' book.
1. Pray and read your Bible. Always. Every day.
2. Don't text or dial while driving and use a hands-free device. Please.
3. Remember those awesome days growing up in the woods of Moreland.
4. Always have a church family.
5. Call your dad and your brother often. Call me more than that.
6. When you hold your baby girl for the first time it will all make sense. You can count on that.
I think of these words of advice for my daughter as she is getting closer to her due date. I have no doubt she is going to be an amazing mommy. The little one she is carrying is already blessed in so many ways, especially to have the mommy and daddy that God has chosen for her. It is exciting and while I cannot wait to meet the newest member of our family, I cannot wait to see my daughter when she first sets her eyes on her infant daughter. It is a good day indeed, for some Prudent Advice.
