Mr. Robert Merion Rooker Sr., age 86, of Newnan, Ga., died at Southland Health and Rehabilitation on Oct. 27, 2009. He was born in Cleburn County, Ala., on March 1, 1923, to the late Jonah Rooker and Rosie Mae Phillips Rooker. He had a long career with Overnite Trucking and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Lawana Rooker. Surviving Mr. Rooker are his wife, Blanche H. Rooker of Newnan; sons, Robert M. Rooker Jr. and his wife, Susie, of Temple, and Larry J.L. Rooker and his wife, Kathy, of Newnan; daughters, Carol Payton and her husband, Larry, of Newnan, Frances Kelley of Newnan,and Debra Walker and her husband, Darry Jr., of Newnan; brother, Autry Rooker and his wife, Colie, of Marietta; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. James Darry Walker Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Thursday, 6-8 p.m. Higgins Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan.
