Mr. George Wesley Leak, 62, of Newnan, Ga. passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.
He was born Nov. 29, 1946 in Riverview, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, D.S. Leak Jr. and Helen Elizabeth Ware Leak, and his brother, Douglas Paul Leak.
Mr. Leak was a member of Grace Point Baptist Church in Montgomery and attended Son Rise Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Mitchell Leak of Newnan, Ga.; daughter, Liberty Leak Bennett, Newnan, Ga.; son, Justice Leak, Hollywood, Calif.; grandchildren, Joseph Wesley and Sarah Elizabeth Bennett, Newnan; brothers, D.S. Leak III of Riverview, AL and James Grover Leak of Kerrville, Tex.
The funeral will be at Grace Point Church 1 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Graveside services will be 4:30 p.m. EST at the Fairview Cemetery in Valley, AL. Officiating will be Mr. John Herzog and Rev. Scotty Harris.
Mr. Leak was a 1966 graduate of Valley High School and later received his Masters in Criminal Justice from Troy State University. He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He worked as a policeman with the Lanett Police Department, the Montgomery Police Department and the Alabama State Troopers, where he was a hostage negotiator until his retirement. He also worked for Homeland Security and founded C.O.P.S. Security. He was also a professor at Amridge University in Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church or charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. EST at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Ala.
