Mr. Kendal Hurst

Obituary

Mr. Kendal Hurst, 66, Mayor of Moreland, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008.

Mr. Hurst was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Meriwether County, son of the late Merrill Eugene Hurst and the late Nell Wortham Hurst, and was preceded in death by his step-mother, Martha Reeves Hurst. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC, and was retired from Owings-Corning Fiberglass in Fairburn. He had lived in Moreland for 43 years, where he had served as Town Marshall, as a member of the City Council, and was serving as Mayor at the time of his death. Mr. Hurst was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church at Woodbury and Bigham Masonic Lodge in Moreland.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cato Hurst, of Moreland; his sons, James Merrill (Jay) Hurst and John Wortham Hurst, both of Moreland; three grandsons, William Ronald Ballou, John Wortham Hurst II, and Whit Gordon Hurst; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and David Templeton of Ellenwood; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen and Russell Stitcher of Moreland, James and Dot Cato and Rob and Susan Cato, all of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Tim Hosmer will officiate and interment will be in the Luthersville Cemetery, with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday night.
