Mr. Carlton Douglas Evans

Obituary

Mr. Carlton Douglas Evans, 73, passed away Nov. 2, 2009, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and dementia. Carl was born in Carroll County, Georgia, on Dec. 16, 1935, and was preceded in death by his parents, William Linwood Evans and Ruby Brock Evans.

Carl was the first person in his family to graduate from college and was a member of the first graduating class of the Southern School of Pharmacy, now a part of Mercer University.

Carl was owner of the Hapeville Drug Company and later the Village Pharmacy in Peachtree City, GA, the last independent pharmacy in Peachtree City. Carl loved his pharmacy and his customers. If a person could not afford their medication, he would gladly accept home-grown vegetables or nothing at all.

Carl is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte (Butch) Chance Evans. Carl is also survived by his children and their families: Charlotte Evans Finnegan and husband Tom Finnegan and William (Bill) Douglas Evans and wife Alisa Tillett Evans.

Carl has seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Evan, and Chase Stell, Andrew Finnegan, and Spencer, Morgan, and Hayden Evans. Carl is also survived by his sister, Mary Cain, and goddaughters, Linda Rinehart and Amy Riley.

Services will be held at the chapel at Carl Mowell Funeral Home in Peachtree City on Friday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m., with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. The reverends Fred Shelnutt and Warren Huddleston will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made on Carl's behalf to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
