Mr. John Bayless Williams

John Bayless Williams (JB) of Newnan, GA, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013. He was born September 30, 1945, to Mary Robertson Williams & Dean Edwards Williams of Boston, Massachusetts.

JB attended Georgia Military Academy (now Woodward Academy) as a boarding student, graduating in 1964. Afterwards, he attended the University of Georgia, where he received a BS degree in chemistry, graduating in 1968. While at Georgia, JB was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, where he served as Treasurer.

Following graduation in 1968, JB married his college sweetheart, Louise Beavers of Newnan.

Soon afterwards, JB was accepted to Marine Officers Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. Upon graduation he was awarded the rank of Second Lieutenant and subsequently completed a 13-month tour of duty in Vietnam as an artillery officer. Upon fulfilling his obligation to the Marine Corps, JB was honorably discharged in 1971, having attained the rank of Captain.

In 1980, JB started his own company, MedRep Incorporated, which specializes in providing lab products that apply to life science departments in universities, medical and vet schools, pathology labs and others for research throughout the Southeast. His company is a major supplier to Emory and the CDC. JB, a highly-respected member of the research community, has been recognized on numerous occasions for outstanding service.

JB was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, and a former member of the Board of Trustees of The Heritage School. He was also an avid fisherman and sportsman, particularly saltwater fly-fishing for Permit and Tarpon, enjoying many hours sharing these interests with his sons. Known for his twinkling eyes and sense of humor, JB endeared himself not only to his family but also to friends, customers, colleagues, and everyone who knew him. He was a “rock” who was always there when needed. JB Williams: Loyal, steadfast, always the patriot. Semper Fi.
