Mr. Joe Peniston "Penny" Storey

Mr. Joe Peniston “Penny” Storey, 88, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home in Newnan. He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Newnan to the late Luther Addison Storey and Sarah Forbus Storey.

Mr. Penny was a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church, where he joined at the age of 11. At the age of 22, he began working at a local dry cleaner. He and his wife owned and operated Penny’s Cleaners for many years before retiring in 1990. Mr. Storey was an active Master Mason and a member of Coweta Lodge #60 F&AM, where he served as the Grand Master several times.

The funeral is Thursday, June 13  at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The visitation is Wednesday evening between 6 and 8 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan.

Rather than flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions to Newnan First United Methodist Church, 33 Greenville St., Newnan, GA 30263 or to Amedisys Hospice’s or to Amedisys Hospice’s Christen Foundation, 5959 Sherwood Forest Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70816.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sara Barrow Storey; daughters, Pat Kennedy & her husband Neal, Donna Storey; grandchildren, Beth Kennedy Headley & her husband Luke, Dennis Patrick Kennedy & his wife Leslie; and great-grandchildren, Neal Kennedy II, Harris Headley, Sara Grace Headley.

The family would also like to thank his devoted caregiver, Cathy Hurst, and the doctors and nurses from Amedisys Hospice.
