Mrs. May King Keith
Mrs. May King Keith, 91, died peacefully in her sleep at her Vernon Woods home in LaGrange, GA, on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. She had been a resident of West Point, GA, for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Keith was born Monday, Nov. 7, 1921, in Newnan, GA, the daughter of the late Willie Herring King and John Robert King. She was valedictorian of the 1938 senior class at Newnan High School. After graduating from Agnes Scott College in 1942, she taught mathematics at Sayre School in Lexington, KY.
During World War II, she served as an air traffic controller at Morrison Army Airfield in West Palm Beach and other bases in Florida until her marriage to Jack Powell Keith in 1946.
Mrs. Keith was an avid gardener, bridge player, walker and dedicated Gray Lady with the Red Cross. During her active years at First Baptist Church, she was a WMU leader and Sunday school teacher. Following tennis, golf, and the Braves on television continued to be her favorite pastimes in her latter years.
She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 56 years, in 2002. She is survived by their two daughters, Robbie Keith Holt of Columbus, GA, and Frances Keith Reeves of Southern Shores, NC, and her husband, Michael Charles Reeves; four grandchildren, Charles Powell Reeves (Josie) of Raleigh, NC, Kathryn Reeves Cross (Lee) of Suffolk, VA, Sarah Reeves Campanelli (Chris) of Charlottesville, VA, Caroline Herring Reeves of New York City, NY; and two great-grandchildren, Margaret Laney Cross and Kathryn Thompson Cross. Mrs. Keith is also survived by her sister, Frances King Mann of Newnan; her nephew, Dr. Bob B. Mann Jr. (Linda), also of Newnan; and her niece, Billie Mann Gatewood (Jim) of Americus.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point, GA, with Dr. Joel E. Richardson, Central Baptist Church, Newnan, GA, officiating. The family will greet friends immediately after the service.
