Mrs. Leeda Faulkner Pike Harris

Mrs. Leeda Faulkner Pike Harris, 77, of Newnan, Ga., attained her perfect healing from an extended illness in the early hours of April 8, 2013. Her struggle for life was valiantly fought for several years. She was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Thomasville, North Carolina, and was one of three children of Thomas and Leeda Rucker Faulkner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Edwin Olmstead and Sharon Brown.

Also predeceasing her were her husbands, Harry Pike and Joe Harris. A graduate of The Crawford W. Long School of Nursing, she possessed a wonderfully nurturing spirit. While registered nurse might have been her job title, she felt it was a God-given calling in her life. She offered her service at hospitals in Franklin, Newnan, and at Garden Terrace in Douglasville. It was not uncommon at all for her to make nightly trips to Garden Terrace to deliver her special home cooking to her patients and to also assist them in eating when they could not do for themselves.

Her love for others and the God who created her made her an important part of her church family at Sunnyside Baptist Church. She cherished the friendships that she made all along her life’s journey, from the years living in Moreland and the 20 years she lived in Waco, Ga.

She is survived by a loving and devoted daughter, Linda Pike of Newnan; a niece, Erica Webb; and a nephew, Shaun Brown.

Her family wishes to express their profound gratitude to a wealth of doctors, nurses, friends and caregivers who loved Leeda as their own. They have truly lifted this family up and carried them through the years of illness and gave her the best quality of life possible.

Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson St., Newnan. The family held visitation Tuesday 5-8 p.m. and will receive friends again on Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 10 at 3 p.m. at Sunnyside Baptist Church with Reverend F.D. McWhorter officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
