Mrs. Johnnie Horne O'Brien

Mrs. Johnnie Horne O'Brien went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Momma Johnnie, as called by so many, was born on Oct. 25, 1919, to the late Walker Horne Sr. and Allie Hyde Horne. She attended school at Raymond and graduated from Moreland High School. She married James W. (Bud) O'Brien on Nov. 25, 1939. Into this union were born two daughters.

During her working career, she was a bookkeeper for F.W. Woolworth, Davis' 5 & 10, and Bob Perry Eggs. She and her late husband had also owned O'Brien Egg Farm.

She was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church and had been very active in Sunday school and Church until health issues prevented her from attending. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James (Bud) O'Brien; brothers, Walker Horne Jr. and his wife Margaret, Archie Horne and his wife Catherine; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Tommy Tittle; son-in-law, Lawson Hughie.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Hughie; grandchildren, Jim (Judy) Hughie, Kim (Craig) Sinclair, Ken Tittle, Tim (Michelle) Tittle; great-grandchildren, Beth, Kayla and Tyler Hughie and Jena and Dylan Tittle; nieces, Donna Horne Lundy, Marcia Horne Dees, Teressa O'Brien Borger, Lynn Sales Jeffers; nephews, Jimmy Horne, David Horne, Scott Horne, Danny O'Brien; and a number of cousins.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at 1 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Funeral to follow visitation at 2 p.m.

Rev. Ron Alderman and Rev. Frank Powers will be officiating the funeral service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy, David, and Scott Horne, Scott Dees, Carlton Floyd and Kenneth Evans.

Donations may be made in her memory to Mary Ray Memorial Schoolhouse, 771 Raymond-Shedden Avenue, Newnan, GA 30263. Having attended school there, she was so proud of the restoration of the building and the fact that it had been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
