Mrs. Martha Lynch Moultrie

Mrs. Martha Lynch Moultrie, 102, of Newnan, passed away Thursday Aug. 7, 2014, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ann and Murray Parks. She was born March 27, 1912, in Meriwether County to the late George Lynch and Marilou Collins Lynch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Moultrie, and her two sisters, Maidee Miller and Virginia Franklin.

Martha was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook. Many people in Meriwether County and Coweta County have been the recipients of her many cakes and beautiful flowers. She will always be remembered for her beautiful iris that she shared with friends and strangers who passed by her home on Roscoe Road. Martha was a lifetime member of the Georgia Garden Club and could still give you the name of flowers well into her 100s. She loved her church, First United Methodist Church in Newnan, and enjoyed singing with the Swinging Singing Seniors for many years up until her beloved husband, John, became disabled and she devoted her time to his care. She devoted herself to caring for others and did it willingly and with great love and grace. She kept her great-grandson Robert Estes in her home when he was a baby several days a week, and all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessed by her many wonderful meals and her strength and grace. Her favorite saying that she preached to all her children was, "Yesterday belongs to history, today belongs to you, tomorrow belongs to God."

The funeral is Sunday Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stuart Green and Dr. Lewis Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury, Georgia. The visitation is Sunday, Aug. 10 from noon until 1:45 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan.

Survivors include children, Eddie and Mary Elizabeth Moultrie, Robert and Cheryl Moultrie, Nancy and Pete Flaherty and Martha Ann and Murray Parks; grandchildren, Katie and Nigel Foo, Sarah Moultrie, Robert and Kelly Moultrie, Billy and Cindy Moultrie, John and Stephanie Smith, Jim and Francis Smith, Colby and Tiffany Smith and Rob and Christi Estes; 18 great-grandchildren; and her cherished caregivers, Carolyn Wright and Chesketa Parks.

Condolences can be expressed online at www.mckoon.com .

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in memory of Martha Moultrie to "Can't Never Could" Foundation, 10 Sherwood Drive, Newnan, or to First United Methodist Church, Newnan.
