Mrs. Violet O. Holloway
Mrs. Violet Otwell Holloway, 91, of Whitesburg, Georgia passed away on Wednesday morning, July 9, 2014 at her residence.
She was born April 18, 1923 in Cleburne County, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Paul Lincoln Otwell and the late Edna Belle Brown Otwell. She was a retired inspector, having worked for Playtex for 33 years.
She was famous for her tea cakes and was affectionately known in her community as the “tea cake lady.” She was a member of the Happy Valley Baptist Church, and most recently attended Rotherwood Congregational Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Holloway; brother, Paul Otwell; sister, Bernice Otwell; and two grandsons.
Survivors include her children: Fred W. and Cecelia Buchanan of Whitesburg, Marie and Johnny Cash of Newnan, Joe and Peggy Holloway of Newnan, Donna and Maxie Parker of Albany, and Ted and Terri Holloway of Whitesburg; sister, Jossie Hite and her husband, Johnny, of Whitesburg; brother, S. T. Otwell of Whitesburg; extended family, Jo Jones and Madelene Pate; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m on Friday, July 11, 2014 from Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with Rev. Tony Thompson and Rev. Bryan Calhoun officiating. Music will be rendered by Robin Calhoun.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Robin Cobb, Trey Buchanan, Michael Holloway, Johnny Cash, Jr., Justin Holloway, Chris Snow, Jay Hilliard, and Chris Lewis. Interment will follow in the Whitesburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
