Mr. Eugene Anderson Cook Jr.
Mr. Eugene Anderson Cook Jr. (Dec. 12, 1925 - March 1, 2014) was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and passed away at his home in Wesley Woods, Newnan after a three month illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Eugene Anderson Cook Sr. and by his daughter Kathryn Cook Schwartz. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Marion Forsythe Cook; a son, Mark Steven Cook M.D. of Newnan, Georgia and daughter Carol Anderson of Lowell, Massachusetts. There are six grandchildren. He also leaves behind many dear friends.
Eugene retired as Director of Technology at Selas Corporation in Dresher Pennsylvania in 2001. He designed and oversaw the production of large steel production furnaces in the United States as well as foreign countries.
He was a World War II veteran, enlisting at age 17. He was part of the 101st Airborne. They parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and took part in the battle of Bastogne. The 101st later liberated the concentration camp Landsberg. At the end of the war, they liberated Hitler's Eagle's nest in Berchtesgaden, Germany.
Eugene was active in Kiwanis for many years and helped to educate the community about World War II and told of his experiences during the war. He strongly believed in patriotism and the responsibility of citizenship.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, at 2 p.m. in the Cornerstone United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Price officiating.
