Mrs. Frances Conner Thompson
Mrs. Frances Conner Thompson, 88, of Grantville, GA, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Southland Health and Rehabilitation in Peachtree City.
Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Coweta County, daughter of the late Eddie Lee Conner and Hattie Fordham Conner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thompson Sr.; son, Roy Thompson Jr., and ten of her eleven siblings. She retired from Playtex in Newnan after 32 years of service and held other jobs through the years; however, her most important job was family. On any given Sunday, there was always church first, then she cooked for a crowd. Ask any of her grands what their favorite dish at Sunday dinner was and its “Granny’s Jailhouse Potatoes.” Her home was always open to those in need of a place to stay for a day or sometimes years. Many, many children have sought refuge in Granny’s and Paw’s home when they needed a home. Mrs. Thompson has always had a servant’s heart. May she rest in the blessed arms of her Lord and Savior.
Survivors include her daughters, Martha (Bruce) Howard and Betty Garrett of Newnan; son, James (Debi) Thompson of Hogansville; sister, Margaret (Wyman) Mathews of Opelika, AL. Frances raised her adopted daughter, Krystal (Ernesto) Leon; her nephew, Allen Thompson; and grandsons, Johnny (May Lee) Thompson and Chuck (Karen) Thompson. Other surviving grandchildren are Melanie (Tim) Stephens, Angie (Trey) Waldo, Jason Thompson, all of Mississippi, Eric (Julia) Howard, Jason (Michelle) Howard, Poppy Howard, Luke (Shana) Thompson, Christina (Jonathan) Moncus, Holly (Joey) Chitwood, Brian Garrett, all of Georgia; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters in-law, Ruth Kelly and Ruthie Mae Murphy; brother in-law, Bill Smith; and a very large extended family.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Her nephew, Jerry Conner will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday evening.
