Mrs. Johnnie Boone Askew Parker

Mrs. Johnnie Boone Askew Parker, 91, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at her home in Newnan, Ga., She was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Springfield, Kentucky, to the late Dr. Hilary Johnson Boone & Marie Barber Boone. Her siblings, Hilary J. Boone Jr. and Mary LaRue Boone Hayden, preceded her in death. She attended parochial schools in Springfield, Kentucky, and graduated from Springfield High School in 1942. She attended St. Catharine College and after graduation she moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to work for the Signal Corp. A few years later she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and worked at Delta Airlines. She met and later married James Barton Askew. They had two daughters, Mary Barber Askew and Eloise Askew. Jimmy Askew died Oct. 14, 1965, from a heart attack. In 1970, she met and married a kind and gentle man from Mobile, Alabama, Bernard John Parker. They were devoted to one another for 43 years of marriage. Faith, family, and friends were top priorities in her life. She was one of the original members of St. George Catholic Church. Her daughters and sons-in-law blessed her with five grandchildren who she loved dearly. The funeral Mass is Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The visitation is Wednesday evening between 5 - 7 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan.
