Mr. Fred David Edwards
Mr. Fred David Edwards answered the bidding of the God who had nurtured him during the 88 years he had spent in service while on this Earth.
Fred was born on Oct. 3, 1925, in Holland, Georgia, and was the son of the late Graves Trennie and Bessie Elrod Edwards. In 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army at Ft. McPherson and was sent to Germany to serve.
Fred married Opal Crowder on Aug. 8, 1953, and their marriage was blessed with three children. Fred's working career was with Georgia Power and at the time of his retirement he was a turbine operator. For 27 years, he had been a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Newnan. His walk with God was evident in all aspects of his life. As a member of First Baptist served as a deacon emeritus. He was a member of the Earl Stewart Sunday School class and The Voice of Experience Choir. He had service on the personnel committee and volunteered with Camp Sonshine. You also might find Fred helping out in the church office or The AO House. If there was a task to be done, he was there. In addition to his church service, he had attended Emmanuel Bible College to enrich not only his life, but others with whom he could share that knowledge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Joan Nelms and her husband, Larry, Joyce Mays and her husband, Mark, David Edwards and his wife, Tamara. There are seven grandchildren. His surviving siblings are James "Bud" Edwards and his wife, Ada; a sister, Annie Ruth Edwards.
Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, where the family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
The funeral service will be in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel at 3 p.m. with Dr. Jimmy Patterson and Reverend Jerry Walker officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Those who wish to do so may honor Fred's life through donations to either The Alzheimer's Association or First Baptist Church of Newnan.
