Mr. Ernest Eugene Barfield

Mr. Ernest Eugene Barfield completed his life's journey on Earth on Nov. 1, 2013, at his home.

Known to everyone as Gene, he was born Aug. 5, 1926 in Marietta and was the son of Ernest and Ada Smith Barfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters. Gene was a skilled craftsman and had spent his career as a government employee. He served his country in the United States Army. Gene was a devoted member of Elim Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.

Gene is survived by his wife, Ann Sherrer Barfield, and his children, Mike (and Leslie) Barfield, Tyra (and Bill) Eliott. There are four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be on Saturday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street in Newnan. The funeral service will be on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. in the McKoon chapel with Reverend Michael Harris and Reverend Norm Goss officiating. Interment will be in the Elim Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Elim Baptist Church, 1529 Handy Road, Newnan, GA 30263. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mckoon.com .
