Mr. John D. Hoggs

Mr. John D. Hoggs, known as "Coach Hoggs," died peacefully on Oct. 25, 2013, at Piedmont Hospital in Newnan at the age of 81.

He was a long-time educator for the West Point School System and Troup County School System for 38 years.

He relocated to Newnan, where he continued his passion for coaching as the community coach at Northgate High School.

He served faithfully for 33 years as president of the Bowen East District Congress of Christian Education and president of the Alabama Baptist State Congress of Christian Education for 12 years.

He served as deacon for the New Hope Missionary Baptist of Fredonia, Ala. He was a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point, Georgia, where the Rev. Willie T. Edmondson is the Pastor. Rev. Michael T. Stiggers Jr. and Dr. John Williams, officiating, Rev. Shandor Calloway, eulogist.

The viewing will be at Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home Inc. of Newnan from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.
