Mr. Harry Rivers

Mr. Harry Rivers, Newnan builder and real estate developer, lost his 24-year battle with cancer on Thursday, Oct. 17.

He was in the loving midst of his family. Mr. Rivers was known for his kindness as well as his expertise in building fine homes. His clients quickly became friends and easily developed into enduring friendships. He was a former Eastern Airlines crew scheduler for more than 20 years. His long victory over liposarcoma cancer has been deemed a miracle. Harry kept an optimistic spirit of determination, which he said he was able to do because of the love from his family, friends and from prayers from the community.

Mr. Rivers is survived by his wife, Judy; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sammee; daughter, Laura; and granddaughter, Maggie. Also surviving are his mother, Clara; siblings, Stanley, Patsy, Debi, and Dee. He is survived by his Scarbrough family, whom he loved so dearly, Johnny and Joyce, Don and Diana, Fred and Chris, and his Scarbrough nieces and nephews. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginshillcrestchapel.com.

Harry’s greatest joy in life though was his love and dedication to Judy, Chris, Laura, Sammee and Maggie, who made his life complete. He was the heart and soul of each of them. Harry will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and cherished friend.

Harry touched the lives of so many and we are all better for having known him. In lieu of flowers Harry would like for you to: enjoy each day to the fullest, pay it forward by making a loving gesture to someone, keep your faith, be nice to someone, give someone a smile or a hug, forgive someone, tell others you love them, and to love your loved ones with all your heart. These were all principles that Harry lived by on a daily basis.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Celebration of Harry’s life will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating. Burial to follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn, Georgia. Honorary pallbearers are: Edwin (Fella) Johnston, Don Scarbrough. Pallbearers are Chris Rivers, Dr. David Vann, Jim Keet, Brad Murphey, Brent Scarbrough, John Paul Scarbrough, David LaGuardia and Bill Bridges.
