Mr. Roscoe McMichael
Mr. Roscoe McMichael, 94, of Newnan, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Wesley Woods of Newnan. He was born April 15, 1919, in Raymond, GA, to the late John Robert McMichael & Annie Calhoun McMichael.
Mr. McMichael went to work in the local cotton mill as a teenager before enlisting in the U.S. Army in January 1941. He proudly served during WWII, surviving both D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the 30th Division "Special Troops," a unit of the 15 highly trained medical and dental personnel. After his military service he moved back to Coweta County where he was a successful building contractor.
He enjoyed the game of baseball and spent many years as a little league coach in Coweta County during the 1960s. He treasured the outdoors, gardening and hunting and spent many happy hours introducing the natural world to his children and grandchildren. He loved a good game of poker and watching the University of Alabama football.
The funeral is Thursday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m., graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Sharon Edgar officiating. The visitation is Thursday afternoon between 2:30-3:30 at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Long McMichael; children, Sheila McMichael of Newnan, Randy McMichael & wife Sharon of Birmingham, AL, David McMichael & wife Sharon of Newnan, Kay Young & husband Pat of Marietta, Mary Jane Murphey & husband Hutch of Newnan; sister, Louise Dean of Newnan; grandchildren, Katherine McMichael, John McMichael & wife Kellam, Colson McMichael, Margaret McMichael, Christie Battle & husband Alex, Hutch Murphey Jr., Mac Murphey, Harrison Young, Robert Young; great-grandchild, Michael Battle; several nieces and nephews.
