Mrs. Ruth Crawford Tidwell

Mrs. Ruth Crawford Tidwell, 87, of Raymond passed away at her home on Sept. 27, 2013, with her loved ones at her side. She escaped the physical pain that had hindered her for so long and she found peace.

Ruth was born near Senoia on Luther Bailey Road. She was the daughter of William Albert and Eula Bailey Crawford. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harvey Crawford, Buddy Crawford, and Bokey Crawford; sister, Frances C. Bridges; and son, Phil Tidwell.

Ruth's devotion to family and her motivation to waste not want not was learned from her mother and older siblings after her father died when she was 6 months old. They worked together to farm their land. She looked up to her grandfather, Luther Bailey, and her oldest brother Harvey as father figures. Her favorite childhood activities were tree climbing and swimming in her grandfather's pond.

Ruth was a graduate of Senoia High School (Brantley Institute) where she played basketball and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. With her typing skills she got a job with Sears in Atlanta where she worked until she became a wife and mother. In the 1960s she became an Avon representative and earned numerous awards in her 50 years with the company.

Ruth cherished her family and friends as well as her home and flower gardens. She was an avid photographer, reader, letter writer and family historian. She was a recycler before it became the popular thing to do. She was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church on Luther Bailey Road.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harvey P. Tidwell; son, John B. Tidwell of Raymond; daughter, Kathy T. Madden and her husband Jim, of Sharpsburg; daughter-in-law, Pat C. Tidwell, of Newnan; grandsons, Austin Tidwell, of Los Angeles; Akom Tidwell, of Newnan; and Alex Madden and his wife Hailey, of Newnan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
