Mrs. Katherine Vickery Kendall
In a soft rustling of angel's wings, Katherine Vickery Kendall gently passed from her home on earth to that home with her Father in heaven on Tuesday evening Sept. 24, 2013.
Katherine was born May 17, 1931, in College Park, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Hamilton Vickery, Sr. and Robbie Lynette Burnham Vickery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Hamilton Vickery, Jr. and her nephew, Donald James Vickery.
She was a graduate of Newnan High School in 1950. She completed training in secretarial skills at Harrison Draughon School of Commerce in Atlanta in 1951. Her great organizational skills made her a valuable asset during the years she worked at The Ivan Allen Company.
For 13 years prior to her retirement, she was the administrative assistant to the president of Smith Container Corporation.
She was actively involved in The Association for Professional Secretaries for many years and served as president for several terms. She loved her involvement in The Powers Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival and was a board member for 25 years and president for two years. She was a fixture in her red gingham attire each year just inside the main gate.
Katherine was a loyal member of Newnan First Baptist Church and was deeply involved in the music ministry through the sanctuary choir and later The Voice of Experience choir. Nothing in her life, though, was more important than being a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Elmer R. Kendall. Her children are Kathleen K. Binion and husband Jeff; Deborah K. Marchman and husband Ricky. She was the doting grandmother to Andy Binion and Abbey, Brad Binion and Lori, Katy Marchman Sosbee and Steven, Kendall Marchman and Darbie, Abigail Marchman Strickland and Travis. Her great- grandchildren include Andrew Austin Binion, Bailey Madison Binion, Emmie Suzanne Binion, Lilly C. Binion, Corbin B. Binion, Piper Ann Binion, Leah C.Griffin, and Breckin J. Griffin. Also surviving are her sisters, Dorothy V. Wright and Louise V. Knowles.
Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the family will receive friends on Friday evening between 6-8 p.m. The memoriall service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Newnan with Dr. Jimmy Dale Patterson and the Rev. Jerry Walker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Music Ministry of Newnan First Baptist Church, 15 West Washington Street, Newnan, GA 30263. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mckoon.com .
