Mrs. Geraldine Beasley Beegle

Mrs. Geraldine Beasley Beegle, 92, of Palmetto, GA, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013. She was born Claxton, GA, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Neal Beasley. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, Dilworth and Delmus Beasley; and daughter, Barbara Beegle Lambert.

She graduated from Georgia Southern State College and taught school in Evans County before embarking on an adventurous journey as an Air Force career wife. Living in places as varied as Florida, California, and Nebraska, she raised her three children mainly in Nebraska. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia, with her newly-retired husband, she was an avid bridge player, earning Master’s points, and she loved to walk and exercise. She and her husband moved to Palmetto to a small farm to spend the rest of their retirement years. There she walked daily, as much as five miles.

She could be seen often with big hat, gloves and long sleeves, walking and waving to everyone that passed who knew her as a regular fixture. Being a breast cancer survivor, she entered many of the Races for the Cure with many members of her family walking with her. She also walked/ran the Peachtree Road Race, being one of the oldest at 85 years of age.

Traveling extensively was another passion. She and her husband visited every state in the U.S. and many countries in Europe, the Orient and South America.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ret. Col. Philip H. Beegle; sons, Philip H. Beegle Jr. (Ann), Rodney Neal Beegle (Rita); son-in-law, Jerry Lambert; grandsons, Philip H. Beegle lll (Jennifer), Brian Lee Beegle, Kevin Jackson Beegle, Morgan Chase Lambert, Austin Taylor Lambert; and great-grandson, Philip H. Beegle lV.

A funeral service will be held at Nesmith Funeral Home in Claxton, Georgia, on Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. Family will receive visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Sykes Chapel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Susan Komen Foundation, Atlanta Chapter, for breast cancer research.
