Mrs. Hazel Thompson Evans
Mrs. Hazel Thompson Evans, 84, of Newnan, GA, passed away on Aug. 20, 2013.
Born in Newnan on Sept. 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Nelson Merlin Thompson and Velma Willingham Thompson. She was a longtime member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught beginners' Sunday school class for over 20 years and sang in the choir.
She helped bring comfort to families by presenting memorial tributes to families of Mills Chapel who had lost loved ones. Mrs. Evans also loved to entertain, especially at Christmas, decorating every room of her home. She loved to crochet and once crocheted her granddaughter's baptism ensemble and a blanket for each of the grandchildren. She never left her home without being "dressed up."
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Grace McMichael. She is survived by her husband of 67 years Edward Evans; daughters, Anne Marie (Don) Lyle, Edwina Elaine (Dave) Cowgill; five grandchildren, Mike, Scott and Keith Lyle, Kim and Kyle Bond; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Williamson; brother, Nelson Thompson.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 22 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 in the chapel of Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Dr. Gene Tyre and Rev. Jerry Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Providence Baptist Church, 6402 Campbellton Redwine Road, Chattahoochee Hills, GA 30268.
