Mr. William Newcomer "Bill" McGuire
Mr. William Newcomer "Bill" McGuire enjoyed a zestful life of education, travel and a love of the Spanish language. Bill was born in Tampa, Florida, April 9, 1958, and was the son of the late William Burson McGuire.
His mother, Mary Ellen Newcomer McGuire, survives him. He attended Radnor High School in Radnor, Pennsylvania. He started his college education at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, where he majored in Spanish and U.S. History. Further education included a teaching certification at the University of West Georgia. In 1993 he was a part of Universidad de Salamanca. His master's in Spanish was completed at Auburn University in 1998.
Upon completion of his degree he was a Spanish teacher and department chair at Stockbridge High School. From 1999 until 2011, he shared his love of the Spanish language with the students at Newnan High School. During this same time he also taught at CEC, Brewton-Parker College and instructed conversational Spanish courses for other professionals in Newnan and Coweta County. Since 2011 he has been a Spanish instructor at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Ginny Craven McGuire, and his children, Will McGuire and Katherine McGuire. His siblings are Lynn McGuire Brown and Mary McGuire Ray. A memorial service for Bill will be on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Bill McMurray officiating.
