Elaine S. Hayes

Devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and friend to all, Elaine Slifer Hayes passed gently into her eternal life on July 31, 2013.

Elaine was born May 20, 1925, in Middletown, Maryland, and was one of five children born to the late Alba Leslie and Mary McBride Slifer. Her brothers, Charles, Merhl, Gerald, and her sister, Frances Holter, preceded her in death. She worked for some time at Southern Mills as a secretary, but retired after serving for 13 years as the well-known city clerk of Senoia.

She was dedicated to her church, The First Baptist Church of Senoia. During her years of activity, she sang in the church choir, participated in Woman's Missionary Union and served on the church library board.

Elaine loved music and was an accomplished pianist.

Her life was one that was family centered. There was always a good book nearby for those moments of relaxation. She could can and freeze garden bounty with the best of them, although that was a skill she sometimes reluctantly employed.

She met her husband, Delma Hayes, when he was serving in Maryland during World War II. It was a marriage of 67 happy years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Larry Allen Hayes and his wife Zann and Thomas Edward Hayes and his wife Brandy. There are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., where the family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 2 between 6-8 p.m.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Senoia with the Rev. Ron Whitlock officiating. Interment will be in the Senoia City Cemetery.

Donations in Mrs. Hayes' memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or online at www.alz.org.
