Carolyn Reese Henderson

A funeral service for Carolyn Reese Henderson will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Sellers-Smith R.W.S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. T. Coleman, eulogist. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Carolyn Reese Henderson was born to Lloyd Reese and Mae Bailey Reese-Profitt, and was a life-long Coweta resident.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where the late Rev. Franklin Gregg provided inspiration that influenced her decision to become a teacher like her mother. She graduated from Fort Valley State College in 1953, where she received her B.S. degree, later earning her master’s from West Georgia College. Her teaching experiences included schools such as Smith Chapel, Westside Elementary and Western Elementary. She retired as a fourth-grade teacher at Western Elementary.

Carolyn was involved in several organization including The Orchettes Civic Club, Theta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Continental Societies, Inc., and The Christian Savings Club. She held an office in every organization to which she belonged. Positions included president and treasurer of the Orchettes Civic Club, which held a special place in her heart because her mother was instrumental in its organization. Other organizations that she worked closely with were The Girls Scouts of America, The Orchettes Cotillion Club and Charm School of the Orchettes Club.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, a loving cousin, Louisa Fisher of Chevy Chase, Md.; sister-in-law, Monique C. Reese and niece, Dominique Reese, both of Newnan, Ga.; step-brother, the Rev. Joseph C. Profitt Jr. of New Orleans, La.; cousins, Mary (Willie) Harris and Patricia (Barry) Bailey, both of Newnan, Ga., and Willie E. Harris Jr. of Maumee, Ohio; God children, Andrew (Glema) Fleming, Sharon Daniel, Alicia (Jerod) Brown and Ricky Powell, all of Newnan, Ga., and a host of other relatives and caring loyal friends.
